Seattle has two large, regional watersheds that supply quality drinking water to 1.6 million people in the greater Seattle area. When you pay for water, that money goes back into our infrastructure and services.

We always monitor our water supply conditions and water quality, and you can view our current and planned outages. Also see how you can tend to your water meter and deal with frozen pipes in winter.

We manage large, regional watersheds that provide some of the cleanest water in the nation. You can tour the Cedar River Watershed, enjoy the recreation area and trails, and learn all about our water system at the Cedar River Education Center and its online learning resources.

Water rates pay for maintaining and repairing 1,800 miles of pipeline, 20,000 valves, 18,000 fire hydrants, 180,000 water service connections, and dozens of other water facilities. They are also used for state-of-the-art water treatment facilities, daily testing of quality, and storage reservoirs in Seattle.
