Accepted Materials
Accepted materials include recyclables, garbage, clean yard waste, clean wood waste, vehicle tires, appliances (no commercial appliances), and household sharps. A wide range of items, including tires, scrap metal, and vehicle batteries, can be recycled. Regular household garbage and many larger items are accepted for disposal.
NOT Accepted Materials
Items not accepted at the Transfer Stations include:
Sewage
Household Chemicals
Radioactive and Hazardous Waste (and Containers)
Ammo, Firearms, Fireworks, Flares, Explosives, Weapons
Sealed Drums, Fuel/Propane or Oil Tanks, Compressed Gas Cylinders, Fire Extinguishers
Electronics, TVs or Monitors (CRTs)
Furnace parts, wood stoves, duct work
Asbestos, or material containing asbestos
Material over 8 ft long and over 200 lbs
Dead animals over 15 lbs (call animal control)
Some items, like ducting, furnaces, and oil tanks, may require special preparation or are not accepted at the Transfer Stations. Payments
You can pay with cash, check, Visa, or MasterCard. Make checks payable to "City of Seattle, Dept. of Finance" and have a valid ID. See rates.
Save yourself a trip. It may cost less to have us pick up your item for you. Commercial garbage truck traffic is heaviest between 3:00 - 5:00 p.m. on weekdays.
