Neighborhood Crossing Improvements

We’re making crossing improvements in several locations throughout the City of Seattle to improve places for people walking, biking, and driving. Construction started last year and will last through Spring 2020.

What’s happening now?

Work is nearly complete! Check out our progress by location below.

Clay St/Alaskan Way

Work has resumed and we expect to have the new needed equipment for the pedestrian improvements activated as soon as early February. Repaving, completing installation of the loops that control vehicles at the railroad crossing, and striping are weather dependent and may be delayed until spring. Once this work is complete, we will reopen the intersection.

35th Ave SW

We expect the signal installation to be completed this winter, along with temporary striping of the new crosswalks. We are working to activate the system and coordinating with Seattle City Light. We'll be back later this spring, when weather conditions are warmer and drier, to complete permanent striping along the corridor, repair disturbed landscaping, and install any remaining signage.

For questions, or comments, please contact us at or (206) 684-7623.

What to expect?

Construction impacts will vary by location and we will address each site uniquely through our construction notices (see below for site-specific information). In general, please expect:

  • Typical work hours from 7 AM – 4 PM, Monday through Friday
  • Noise, vibrations, and dust during work hours
  • Equipment and materials near the project area
  • “No Park” signs placed in work area 72 hours in advance of work starting
  • Temporary and intermittent traffic and lane restrictions and/or pedestrian detours; signage and flaggers may direct people through the work zone
