Electrification and Zero Emission Mobility Program
The transportation sector is the largest contributor to Seattle's greenhouse gas emissions. Meeting Citywide Climate Goals, including Seattle's goal to achieve carbon neutrality by 2050, requires enacting a combination of mode shifting strategies (e.g. replacing single-occupancy vehicles trips with carpool, transit, or active transportation trips as feasible) and electrifying transportation (e.g. replacing petroleum and diesel fuel with carbon neutral electricity provided by Seattle City Light).
SDOT is a key implementing partner in the Seattle's Clean Transportation Electrification Blueprint, working closely with the Office of Sustainability & Environment, Seattle City Light, and other internal and external partners to accelerate the equitable adoption of electric transportation technologies.
Transportation Electrification Resources:
- CAM 2119 - Level 1 Cord Guidance - Guidance for charging your EV
- By following this guide, you can charge your electric vehicle on the street without a Street Use permit.
- SDOT's Human Centered Design Study for Expanding the EV Charging Network
- SDOT conducted a three-part human-centered design study in the summer of 2018 to guide the expansion of the public electric vehicle charging network in low-income communities and communities of color.
- EVCROW 1.0 Evaluation
- Assessment of the Electric Vehicle Charging in the Right-of-Way (EVCROW) Permit Pilot's permitting process, installation challenges, EV charging behavior, and equity considerations in advance of potentially developing another pilot or a permanent SDOT permitting program.
- EV Shared Mobility Project
- City of Seattle and Atlas Public Policy, brings together the U.S. Department of Energy's Energy Efficient Mobility Systems program and major industry stakeholders with the cities of Seattle, New York, Portland, and Denver with the aim of accelerating the adoption of electric vehicles in shared mobility applications and to establish best practices that can be used by others around the United States.
- SDOT's EVSE Roadmap for Shared Mobility
- The Electric Vehicle Supply Equipment (EVSE) Roadmap for Shared Mobility ("EVSE Roadmap") was created to support the transition to electrically-powered shared mobility services such as car share and ridehail services.
