Redistricting Workplan

To comply with Chapter 29A.76 RCW and the spirit of Article IV Section 2.D of the City Charter, the Commission is advised to adhere to the following timeline: |

August 16 - September 30, 2021: |
State forwards Redistricting population data to local jurisdictions for local Redistricting within 45 days after receipt from Secretary of State. |
By November 30, 2021: |
City Council appoints two members of the Seattle Redistricting Commission; Mayor appoints two members of the Seattle Redistricting Commission; |
Commissioners appoint one additional member of Seattle Redistricting Commission; |
Commission meets and establishes a meetings schedule, selects chair, approves workplan and budget |
Within two months after appointment of the fifth member, Commission must appoint a District Master. |
March 15, 2022 - November 14, 2022 |
District Master submits redistricting plan to Seattle Redistricting Commission; |
Seattle Redistricting Commission conducts at least one public forum in each district; |
Seattle Redistricting Commission develops and publishes draft proposal; |
Within 10 days and at least 1 week before adopting plan, Seattle Redistricting Commission conducts at least one more meeting to include notice and comment: |
Seattle Redistricting Commission amends and submits draft based on comments received at least one week before final approval; |
Seattle Redistricting Commission invites additional written comment; |
Seattle Redistricting Commission approves and files final plan with City Clerk. |
November 15, 2022 |
Deadline for local jurisdictions to send redistricting plans to County Auditors. The City Clerk must transmit the redistricting plan to King County auditors no later than this date. https://www.sos.wa.gov/elections/Redistricting/Redistricting-and-census-timeline.aspx |
