Martin Luther King Jr. Civil Rights Memorial Park

The Martin Luther King, Jr. Civil Rights Memorial Park is a four-and-a-half acre City of Seattle park on the east side of Martin Luther King, Jr. Way, between South Walker and South Bayview Streets. The park is designed around a black granite 'mountain' - a dramatic, thirty-foot sculpture inspired by the civil rights leader's "I've Been to the Mountaintop" speech, made the day before he was assassinated in 1968.

In the fall of 2018, the park name was modified to include the words "Civil Rights" to honor the work of community leaders and organizations in Seattle who work on issues of social justice, and to celebrate the contributions of Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and other civil rights leaders.

Urban Food Systems Campus Development Project

Seattle Parks and Recreation is collaborating with the community to envision healing gardens and enhanced park spaces in Martin Luther King, Jr. Memorial Park and Amy Yee Tennis Center campus that promote solidarity, strengthen community resilience, and support healthy and sustainable living.
