Project Partners

Seattle Parks and Recreation (SPR), in partnership with Africatown Community Land Trust, No More Under, A Personal Point of View LLC, and Inclusion Matters, is renovating Judkins Park to advance inclusivity, equity, and accessibility. By leveraging public-private partnerships, the project aims to maximize benefits to the community. The Judkins Park neighborhood’s history of redlining, displacement, and gentrification underscores the need for intentional efforts toward inclusivity and addressing disparities in access.

SPR is partnering with Africatown Community Land Trust (ACLT) to lead and facilitate community outreach and engagement for the project, prioritizing involvement from the Black community and historically underrepresented groups. Through ACLT’s William Grose Center for Cultural Innovation, the project will empower and foster innovation with local youth in the design process.

Through the Judkins Park Renovations Project, SPR is building off its Swim Seattle partnership with No More Under, a non-profit organization dedicated to saving lives through water safety education. This initiative aims to lower barriers and provide equitable access to swimming lessons and resources to the Judkins Park community. This project also honors the life of Yori Tsunoda, learn more about Yori’s story.

With the community at the forefront of the project, SPR is partnering with Community Leader and Judkins Park resident, Margo Jones, and her organization A Personal Point of View, LLC. This partnership aims to further connect with the community, build trust, and conduct a codesign process representative of the community.

The collaboration with Inclusion Matters will be focused on designing a new Judkins Playground, spray park, and expanded sensory nature play area that fosters inclusive play opportunities for children of all abilities. Learn more about Inclusion Matters mission

Together, SPR and its partners are working to remove these barriers and ensure Judkins Park becomes a place of belonging, equity, and enriched access for all.

Project Description

The project will renovate both restrooms in the park, and renovate and expand the playground and dpray park to provide inclusive play opportunities and sensory nature play for children of all abilities.

During construction, the contractor will need to close a portion of the park. Seattle Parks and Recreation and the contractor hired for the project will work to minimize the impact on the neighborhood. Thank you for your understanding.
