Carkeek Park Playground Renovation

This project is in the construction documentation phase. The project was recently submitted for 60% design review. The project scope will include the following elements: 

  • Accessible parking improvements
  • Accessible pathways
  • Expanded play area
  • Restroom renovations
  • Landscape plantings

This project will replace the existing play area and make accessibility improvements to the pathway from the parking lot to the play area. 

The entire play area will be closed throughout construction.

Budget

$1,288,000 (Funding source: REET I) for playground construction
$70,000 (Seattle Park District) for the restroom renovation design. 

Schedule

Planning: 2021
Design: Spring 2023
Construction: Winter 2024/25
Completion: Spring 2025

Project Description

This project will replace the existing play area and make accessibility improvements to the pathway from the parking lot to the play area. This project will use synthetic safety surfacing in the play area. If necessary, this project will also hire an artist to repaint the Salmon Slide. All improvements will meet accessibility and stormwater requirements.

The play area will be closed throughout construction.
